Select an industry. Explain how an organization in that industry could improve Consumer satisfaction through the use of data warehousing.

Solution

An industry that I have selected is the ‘automobile’ industry. An organization in that industry will be Toyota. Currently Toyota is competing with Volkswagen in the race towards the largest automobile company in the world (in terms of number of cars sold across the globe).

Data warehousing is the e-storage (or electronic storage) of a large quantum of information by an organization. Toyota, in particular, and the automobile industry, in general, can use data warehousing to aggregate structured data over a period of time. Toyota can leverage its data warehousing capabilities for the purposes of exploration and data mining. This will empower Toyota to look for patterns of information. Once Toyota is able to identify patterns (both implicit as well as explicit) they will be able to improve their business processes to produce cars that are able to meet the needs, requirements and specifications of the buyers and consumers. It will be able to better position its products and fill in any gaps that might be existing and that caused consumer dissatisfaction.

Toyota will be able to merge large and several databases and this will help it in obtaining multidimensional analytics. Through the insights Toyota will make its cars that will be able to meet the moving and the dynamic needs of the consumers.

All these will help Toyota to improve consumer satisfaction in the long run.
