Certain mutations of lack repressor gene cause the loss of its function, while others create a \"super-repressor\" protein. Propose a hypothesis regarding what parts of the protein can be altered to produce these two opposite mutant functionalities. Provide a brief rationale for each hypothesis

  Solution
The part of protein that results in loss-of function mutation is the domain of the repressor that binds to the operator and this loss of function will result in expression of lac O genes as repressor will not br able to bind to operator while the part of protein that results in super repressor protein is the domain of repressor that binds allolactose and this will prevent repressor to bind to allolactose as a result of which repressor will attach to operator site and induction will not occur.
