What steps can the systems engineer take to help ensure that system compo- nents designed by different technical groups or contractors will fit together and interact effectively when assembled to make up the total system? a)   Ensure same design and measurement units on drawings and manufacturing [either all SI or all FPS/Imperial]
b)   The manufacturing tolerances of interfacing components be designed and agreed upon by the manufacturers of these components
c)    Create a common assembly drawing and share with the technical groups and contractors to describe the mutual dependence of the parts and interfaces.
d)   Study the process capabilities of the manufacturing process involved and incorporate statistical tolerancing to ensure the process variations are within control.
e)   In order to increase permissible variations in part performance parameter, a selective assembly can also be used to maintain same level of design tolerances.
f)   In case the input - ouput are electrical signals and software controlled, the units of such interim variables should be identical and time and frequency domain. The resolution and response time should also be synchronized / matched.
