There are no other type of glands in skin. There are only 4 types of glands present in the human skin, they are as follows:
1. Sweat Glands:- It is also known as \"Sudoriferous glands\". In humans there are 2 types of sweat glands, they are:-
The overall function of both the glands of sweat is to maintain baody temperature and to remove some of waste products so that the metabolism is maintained.
2. Oil glands:- They are also called as\"Subaceous glands\". They secrete an oily substance called as \"Sebum\". These glands are mostly associated with the hair follicles.These are present througout the skin of human except in sole of feet and palm of hand.They secrete either into the neck of the hair follicle or directly to the surface through the pore.The structure consisting of hair, hair follicle and subaceous gland is known as \"Pilosubaceous unit\". Their main function is to prevent hair becoming dry and brittle, skin dryness, and also restricts the growth of certan bacteria.
3. Wax glands :- Also known as\"Ceruminous glands\". They are mainly found in the ears ofhumans. They produce yellowish and waxy substance in the ear canal. Its amin function is in assissting in the cleaning and lubrication of ear canal and also provides protection against certain bacteria, fungus and insects entry to the ear.
4. Mammary glands :- These are mainly found in the women. These are exocrine glands are enlarged and modified sweat glands. These becomes functional during pregancy time of women, but they will start to form in their puberty stage itself. its main function is to produce Milk for the young ones. They are mainly controlled by hormones of female. The basic structure mainly composes of alveoli lined with milk secreting epithelial cells and surrounded by myoepithelial cells. These alveoli forms group called lobulus and each lobule has a duct called lactiferous ducts which drains into the opening into nipple.
