It is a IEEE standard protocol for implementing Wireless Local Area Network

It is developed by Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers

It has set of rules for developing Media Access Control and Physical Layer Specifications

Now there are many versions are available in the 802.11, like 802.11a,802.11b,802.11c....etc

All the 802.11 specifications use the Ethernet protocol
