What is the difference between distributive and processive D
What is the difference between distributive and processive DNA synthesis?
This is for a 400 level biochem class- we are studying HIV RT and AZT. Ive read a paper on this subject, however I am not sure what the difference is between the two different forms of DNA synthesis.
Solution
DNA synthesis is a process of high fidelity. it is a more errorfree process due to proofreading activity which is performed by several exonuclease enzymes these are 3\'-5\' exonuclease enzymes.
certain organisms have defect in 3\'-5\' exonuclease activity it is associated with increased susceptibility to cancer. as it lack proofreading activity.
3\'-5\' exonuclease activity of DNA plymerase in processive DNA synthesis corrects a terminal mismatch. in E.coli DNA polymerase 1 perform this, in eukaryotes DNA polymerase delta and epsilon. PCNA help these polymerase to aid fidelity of DNA replication.
