Probability of Sam skipping a course at a day is 0.4; probability of him failing to finish daily assignment of the course is 0.2. The probability of a quiz takes place in class as Sam skips it is 0.6. Probability of a quiz takes place when he doesn\'t finish the assignment in time is 0.8. We assume that there will only be quiz if Sam either skips the course or forgets to do the assignment (the professor is pretty mean on him).

This day there is actually a quiz happening. Which one is more likely to be the case for this day, Sam skipping the course or not finishing the assignment?

My attempt: P(S) = 0.4, P(F) = 0.2, P(Q|S) = 0.6, P(Q|F) = 0.8, therefore P(QS) = 0.24 and P(QF) = 0.16. So the previous one is more like to be the case. Not sure this is right.

Solution

Prob for Sam skipping = 0.4

P (not finishing assignement) = 0.2

Hence skipping a course is more likely

Probability of Sam skipping a course at a day is 0.4; probability of him failing to finish daily assignment of the course is 0.2. The probability of a quiz take
