Map Sapling Learning macmillan learning At a certain temperature, 0.3011 mol of N2 and 1.741 mol of H2 are placed in a 1.50-L container. N,(g) + 3H2(g) 2NH3(g) At equilibrium, 0.1201 mol of N2 is present. Calculate the equilibrium constant, Kc Number K0.548

Solution

ICE table-

N2(g) + 3H2(g) <----> 2NH3(g)

Initial: 0.3011. 1.741 . 0

Change:. -x. -3x. +2x

Equilb: 0.3011-x. 1.741-3x . 2x

Given-

[N2] at equilibrium = 0.1201mol

0.3011-x = 0.1201mol

x = 0.181mol

[H2] =1.741-3x = 1.741-3*(0.181mol) = 1.198mol

[NH3] = 2x = 2*0.181mol = 0.362mol

So at equilibrium,

[N2] = 0.1201mol/1.5L = 0.081M

[H2] = 1.198mol/1.5L = 0.799M

[NH3] = 0.362mol/1.5L = 0.241M

Kc = [NH3]2/[N2]*[H2]3

= 0.241M2/0.081M*0.7993

Kc = 0.0581/0.0413

Kc = 1.41
