Using the following equation determine the yield from the f

Using the following equation, determine the % yield from the following reaction if 30.40 g of octane (C8H18) react with excess oxygen to produce 81.85 g of CO2(g). Use the correct number of significant figures in your answer. 2C8H18(I) + 25O2(g) 16CO2 (g) + 18H2O(l)

Solution

From the given balanced equation

2 moles f C8H18 gives 16 moles of CO2

30.40/114 moles of C8H18 can give = 2.13 moles of CO2

= 93.87 g of CO2

Thus the theoretical yield of CO2 = 93.87 g

If the experimental yield is = 81.85 g of CO2

The % yield = experimental yield x100/ theoretical yield

= 81.85x100/93.87

= 87.19%

Using the following equation, determine the % yield from the following reaction if 30.40 g of octane (C8H18) react with excess oxygen to produce 81.85 g of CO2(
