When the pH is zero that is extremey acidic condition then hydronium ions ((H3O+) will be produced and these ions will move towards the cathode and will also be deposited on cathode. This will reduce the efficiency of electroplating of Ni. In general, pH 3.8 to 4.2 is the optimal pH for Nickel plating.
