Two planes are flying at the height of 10-km. They are going at the same speed, and both traveling due north. If the planes are 3,000 km apart as measured along the surface of the earth, what angle do the lines from the planes make to the center of the Earth make? This question will create a right triangle. Please do not account for the circumference of the earth as it is not important in this question. Please! Draw the right triangle if possible

Solution

Here it forms a right triangle between two planes, so that its base is 3000 km and its height is 10 km , Thus angle of elevation

tan x= height/base = 10/3000 = 0.0033

or x= arctan (0.0033) = 0.19

So required angle is 0.19 degree.
