You just received an interim promotion to Senior Training Manager at your organization. The boss explained to you that the training programs in the organization have been falling short of the mark and not meeting the goals and objectives to justify the cost of the training. He told you that you have 90 days come up with a plan and program to turn things around and isolate important training objectives and develop training plans to best meet them. The \"interim\" status will change to \"permanent\" if your plan is worthy and does the job. What is your first step? Why is this step the most important to begin? What tools or concepts in this Unit would you use as a guide or tool to develop your program? Why? Please support your points.

Solution

In the given scenario, the existing training program is not effective and it is unable to meet the goals and objectives. It means that either the training program is not designed according to the requirements of the organization and employees’ existing skill set, or the method of training program is not suitable that could add value to the employees and they are unable to lift themselves to deliver the performance as expected by the organization.
In this scenario, my first step will be to take the feedback from the employees and evaluate the training program effectiveness. It will tell the actual reasons of the failure of the training program. On the basis of the inputs and feedback from the employees, a modified form of training that is more suitable to them, will be delivered. It will improve their confidence as well as the performance level of the employees. It can only happen when the feedback is collected as it explains the effectiveness of the training imparted to the employees.
Further, I will identify the training needs and do the skill gap analysis of the employees. Afterwards, I will select the best training method that can be workshop based or case study method and make them learn in the training to implement the new skills. It will make them confident, comfortable and feel good to implement the same at work. It will raise the performance level of the employees, an important part of the goals & objectives.
