-Catechol is a poison.Do not pipette solution by mouth.Wash hand throughtly after expeiment.These care should be taken while handaling catechol solution.

-The enzyme catecholase (Catechol Oxidase) is common in plants.

-The substrates of catecholase are catechol and oxygen.

-The substrates react with each other within the active site of the enzyme.

-The products formed by these reactions are benzoquinone and water.

-Benzoquinone prevent damaged fruit from rotting.

-Catecholase require copper as cofactor.

-Phenylthiourea (PTU) is a inhibitor of catecholase.

-PTU has higher affinity for copper than catecholase and it takes copper away from enzyme.

-Catechol was added last so that it would not have chance to react with the enzyme before PTU was added.
