Assignment4 Problem 346 2 of 3 Part A Determine the maximum

Assignment#4 Problem 3.46 2 of 3 Part A Determine the maximum mass of the crate so that the tension developed in any cable does not exceeded 5.8 kN. (Figure 1) Express your answer to three significant figures and include the appropriate units axValue Units Figure 1 of 1 Submit uest Answer Provide Feedback Next> 2 m

Solution

the maximum tension in the assembly will be experienced by cable AD. This is because if equilibrium of A is considered, tension in cable AC will be equal to compoment of tension of cable AD in y direction and tension in cable AB will be equal to component of tension of cable AD in x direction.

Let tension in cable be equal to 5.8 kN

angle cable AD makes with the horizontal = tan-1(1/sqrt(22+22))=19.47o

let mass of crate be m

From equilibrium of A in z direction,we get

m*9.8=5.8*sin19.47*103

m=197.27 kg

mass oif crate should not exceed 197.27 kg
