Evaluate the function f(x) = x^2 -4x - 1 at the given values of the independent variable and simplify a. f(-8) b.f(x + 9) c. f(-x) a. f(-8) = (Simplify your answer.) b. f(x + 9) = (Simplify your answer.) c. f(-x) = (Simplify your answer.)

Solution

f(x) = x2 -4x -1

1) f(-8) = (-8)2 -4(-8) -1

           = 64 +32 -1

           =95

2) f(x+9) = (x+9)2 -4(x+9) -1

             = x2 +18x +81 -4x -36 -1

            = x2 +14x +44           answer

3)f(-x) = (-x)2 -4(-x) -1

           = x2 +4x -1       answer

 Evaluate the function f(x) = x^2 -4x - 1 at the given values of the independent variable and simplify a. f(-8) b.f(x + 9) c. f(-x) a. f(-8) = (Simplify your an
