In the process of upgrading the HVAC system of a large biome
In the process of upgrading the HVAC system of a large biomedical research building, the contractor accidently cross connected the ventilation system from the P3 containment lab to the building wide system. When this problem was discovered a couple of weeks later, the building was shut down on the suspicion that infectious agents may have been dispersed throughout the building. As the CEO of Acme Hazmat Cleaning Services and Pizzeria, you submitted the low bid for decontaminating the building. What is your general strategy for this job?
Solution
1) First step would be to seal the building and remove all personnel.
2) Remove all carpets, cloth etc which can either be through washed or discarded safely.
3) The entire building must be fumicated, may be even multiple times.
4) Air filters are to be thoroughly inspected.
5) The building is to be completely cleaned with decontaminants and antiseptic.
6) If the cost admits it is advisable to use strong UV lamps in each room for a couple of days.
