Use the graph of y =f(x) shown below to graph the function g. Choose the correct graph below. g(x) = f(2x) O A. B. 10-m 272 10 10 10 10 O C. 148 10 10

Solution

According to functions transformations rule if y = f(Kx) and if k is greater than 1 then transformed graph will compresses the x-direction.

That means, value of y-coordinate would remain same but the values of x-coordinates would be become halves.

So, new coordinates of the tranformed graph would be

(-8/2, 0) => (-4,0)

(2/2, 7) => (1, 7)

(-2/2, -7) => (-1,-7 )

(8/2,0) => ( 4,0 )

Therefore, new coordinates (-4,0) , (1,7), (-1,-7) and (4,0).

Option B would be correct option for this problem.
