Describe difficulties in using composites for highproduction
Describe difficulties in using composites for high-production automobile bodies.
Solution
Answer:
Composites are leading topic from the last decade in the manufacturing industry due to its versatile properties, more importantly Its strength to weight ratio which very good when compared to other materials available in the market.
But this is not going to end here, every thing has it’s own flaws which are needed to be given due consideration while selecting them.
difficulties in using composites for high-production automobile bodies:
1. Automobile bodies contain more intricate shapes and structures which are needed to be casted but the composites are fragile than wrought iron which making it difficult to cast them without making them brittle (Casted products will attain some brittleness).
2. The Brittle nature of the composites are unknown in the long run which is very problematic to handle in the service period of the automobiles since it’s going to effect costs significantly.
3. Composites require special care after manufacturing which directly demands better inventory storing facilities and hence increasing the costs further.
4. Composites require different methods and technologies for different types of them which is inappropriate for the high-volume production.
5. Repairing of the composites demands special equipment in almost all cases.
6. Dismantling mounting on composites is very difficult when compared to other materials since composites are damage prone to rivets and pins.
7. Composite materials can’t be worked wet due to their curing temperature is only workable temperature which making them difficult to repair.
8. Some Fibres need to be worked at high temperatures which is not allowed near fuel tanks and hydraulic equipments, etc.
