Given the concentration of organic carbon in a soil sample and the soils bulk density, be able to calculate the mass of organic carbon in one hectare to a depth of 20cm.

SOC- 2.7g kg-1

BD=1.25 mg m-3

Solution

Volume of Soil = 10000*0.2 = 2000m3

Mass of particles = 1.25*10^(6) * 2000 gm

= 2.5*10^(9) gm = 2.5 *10^(6) Kg

SOC = 2.7 gm Kg-1

Mass of Organic carbon = 2.7*2.5*10^(6) gm =6.75 * 10^(3) Kg

= 6.75 Million gm

Given the concentration of organic carbon in a soil sample and the soils bulk density, be able to calculate the mass of organic carbon in one hectare to a depth
