Solution

1.

pH = 10.90

We know that,

pH = - Log[H3O+]

10.90 = - Log[H3O+]

[H3O+] = 1.2 * 10-11 M

And also ,

[H3O+][OH-] = 1.0 * 10-14

[OH-] = 1.0 * 10-14 / (1.26 * 10-11)

[OH-] = 7.9 * 10-4 M

Since [H3O+] < 1.0 * 10-7 the solution is basic .

PART A = 1.2 * 10-11 M

PART B = 7.9 * 10-4 M

PART C = Basic

2.

For a neutral solution,

pH = 7.0

And,

[H3O+][OH-] = 1.0 * 10-14

So,

[H3O+] = [OH-] = 1.0 * 10-7 M

So,

PART D = 1.0 * 10-7 M

PART E = 1.0 * 10-7 M

PART F = 7.0

3.

We know,

[H3O+][OH-] = 1.0 * 10-14

7.3 * 10-12 * [OH-] = 1.0 * 10-14

[OH-] = 1.4 * 10-3 M

pH = - Log[H3O+] = - Log(7.3 * 10-12) = 11.14

SInce pH > 7.0 the solution is basic.

So,

PART G = 1.4 * 10-3 M

PART H = 11.14

PART I = Basic
