Leadership Role: The Analyzer (Please do not attempt to solve if you can not answer all the questions below)

Take a look at this (partial) dashboard for a fictitious company. Across the top is the progress made in the relevant areas; for example, the company has managed to achieve 66% of its goals for business development, is at 60% operational efficiency, not doing so well in business management, and so on. Beneath that in the other graphical images, you can see sales, service claims, and profits (YTD).

Though this is an incomplete look at the organization\'s position, I would like you to take one of the four types of leader roles from a previous reading, and apply the traits of that role to interpreting this dashboard. Your assignment will be to:

- apply an interpretation and recommendations of this dashboard based upon how a structualizer might think

- produce a 1 Word page report that interprets the dashboard, makes recommendations for areas for improvement, and most importantly, explain why the role you chose would look at / interpret the dashboard from that viewpoint. I\'m aware there is limited data here but do discuss what you see.

Note: there is no one correct answer to this assignment, but there are deficient answers, and excellent interpretations, and it is up to you to decide what the organization should do under your leadership as The Analyzer role.

Solution

As an analytical leader, I would like to covey to the current state of the business as I see it and also try to find out potential point of weaknesses and strength that the business finds itself in. A list of recommendations also follows the observations.

While the operational efficiency of the business stands at 60% and the business development efficacy at 66%, the human capital is only at 42% with overall business management at 16% and succession planning at 33%. This implies that we are doing extremely poorly as far as our business processes are concerned and we to improve big time. Also that our succession planning needs to be improved to ensure that continuity of leadership is maintained properly to ensure sustainable growth in the future.

Since we have registered month-on-month growth and our overall profitability for this year as compared to the last year is up, we are doing comparatively better. But we must not become complacent because our month on month growth is only on account of lowest sales of the year which happened in the month of November.

There is also a cause of concern in terms of increasing trend of warranty claims in the segment of Bicycles and Clothing. While Bicycles is the most profitable segment for us, a rise in the warranty claims implies that the profitability might be eroded in the future and we have to improve our quality to reduce such instances in the future. Also a rising trend of warranty claims in the clothing segment should be looked at immediately as this is already a smaller segment and this kind of poor quality will further inhibit chances of growth in this segment.

We are doing good in the accessories segment and must imbibe some of the best practices followed there to other segments.
