Determine the greater quantity in each case!
Substance A has a larger molar mass than substance B. You dissolve 1 gram of each in water. Which solution has the higher vapor pressure? Explain.
Solution
1)vapour pressure is directly proportional to the mole fraction of the solvent
since B has higher molar mass,
it will have less number of moles
so it will have greater vapour pressure
2)boiling point=Kb*m
where m is the molality
since the number of moles of A is greater than that of B, A will have higher biling point
3)freezing point=Kf*m
where m is the molality
since the number of moles of A is greater than that of B, A will have lower freezing point
