1. Given the hypotenuse = 10 m, angle = 30º, find the length of both legs of the triangle.

2. Given angle = 55º, opposite side = 4 m, find the hypotenuse and adjacent side lengths.

3. Given the hypotenuse = 4 m, side A = 3 m, find both acute angles.

4. Given the length of the side A = 3 m, and side B = 5 m, find the acute angles and the hypotenuse.

5. A ball is kicked into the air at an angle of 25º to the horizontal with an initial resultant velocity of 25 m/sec.

6. Find both the vertical and horizontal components of the velocity vector.

7. At the instant of takeoff, a long jumper has a forward velocity of 9.47 m/sec and a vertical velocity of 3.21 m/sec.

8. Find the angle of takeoff (relative to the horizontal) and the magnitude of the resultant velocity vector.

Solution

Hypotenuse=10m and alpha=30degree

sin alpha=opposite/hypotenuse

sin 30=opposite/10

1/2=opposite/10

opposite=5

cos alpha=adjacent/hypotenuse

cos30=adjacent/10

adjacent=10*(sqrt3/2)

adjacent=5sqrt3

2. alpha=55degree and opposite=4m

sin alpha=opposite/hypotenuse

sin55=4/hypotenuse

hypotenuse=4/sin55

hypotenuse=4.883 m

cos alpha=adjacent/hypotenuse

cos 55=adjacent/4.883

adjacent=4.883*cos 55=2.8
