A 1.00g sample of Ne (g) at 1 atm pressure and 27 degrees Celsius is allowed to expand into an evacuated vessel of 2.50 L volume. Does the gas do work? Explain.
Solution
at temperature and pressure: T = 27 deg C , P = 1 atm, you can derive this one using ideal gas law:
 PV = nRT
 where
 P = 1 atm (STP)
 T = 273.15+27=300.15 K (STP)
 R = gas constant = 0.0821 L*atm/mol-K
 n=1/20.1797=.0495
V=nRT/P=(.0495*.0821*300.15)=12.19L
yes the gas do work because volume can be expand upto 12.19L
