Dubai government has stated a desire to increase recycling rates, both residential and business. In 2013, municipal statistics recorded as much as 2.6 million tonnes of garbage being sent to the landfill, 900,000 tonnes less than the 3.5 million tonnes sent to landfill in Dubai in 2010. However, 35 per cent of garbage is still being buried in landfills today in Dubai. Per capita, it’s estimated that Dubai residents each contribute roughly 2.7 kilos to the emirate’s waste stream every day. The Dubai Integrated Energy Strategy for 2030 aims to reduce energy demand by 30 per cent and realise zero waste by 2030. Your task is to gather primary and secondary data in order to (1) evaluate current household recycling rates, practices, impediments, etc., (2) analyse the data, and (3) make a recommendation for what actions the Dubai government could take to increase household recycling. In addition, please evaluate the statistical relationship, if any, between education level and the frequency of recycling for a household.

In your assignment, please include the following.

·         Describe your plan to collect both primary and secondary data related to the scenario above.

·         Design a questionnaire for primary data collection related to the scenario above. Obtain 25-30 responses. Include the questionnaire and responses in the report.

Produce a detailed plan of how you will collect the data, justifying the usage of primary and secondary sources. Primary data can be collected by administering questionnaires. Data from the internet or other published sources can be used as secondary data.

Present the survey methodology used. Discuss in your report how the sample was selected from a population. You must provide a minimum of 25 responses which means you must survey a larger number.

Produce a questionnaire for the investigation into Dubai household recycling habits. The questionnaire may ask 10-15 questions and you can circulate your questionnaire within or outside of the University. You can also work on the design of the questionnaire together with a fellow student, if you wish

Survey would include both the objective and subjective questions which would cover not only the recycling process details but also the demography of the household or business responsible for this recycling. The Questionnaires would be the ideal method for this survey as close ended generic questions are required for the desired recycling details and very few descriptive data is needed. Questionnaire will help to reach a wider audience in lesser time and would be ideal methodology since detailed research is not required to get a diverse response.

Sampling frame should ensure representation from all census groups of every strata of people including gender, income level, society related and profession wise segmented. A 5-10 sample from every group or strata will help to do an extensive study.
