a balloon filled with air has a volume of 0.500L at 25°c and an internal pressure of 1.20 atm. What would be the volume of the balloon be after it is placed in a freezer at -10.0 C if the internal pressure does not change?

Solution

Charle\'s Law:

At constant Pressure and the volume of fixed mass of a gas is directly proportional to its absolute temperature.

So,

V is proportional to T

V / T = constant

V1 / T1 = V2 / T2

0.500 / (25 + 273.15) = V2 / ( - 10.0 + 273.15 )

V2 = 0.00168 * 263.15

V2 = Final volume = 0.441 L
