The following reaction was performed in a sealed vessel at 773 degree C: H2(g)+I2(g) 2HI(g) Initially, only H2 an I2 were present at concentration of [H2]=3.65 M and [I2]=2.65M. The equilibrium concentration of I2 is 0.0200 M. What is the equilibrium constant, Kc, for the reaction at this temperature ? Express your answer numerically.

Solution

reaction H2 + I2 ----> 2HI

initially 3.65 2.95 0

at eq 3.65-x 2.95-x 2x

2.95-x = 0.02

x= 2.93

keq = [HI]^2/[H2][I2] = (2x)^2/(3.65-x)(2.95-x) = 2384.69
