2. Normal saline solution is used in intravenous drips for patients who cannot take fuids by mouth. This solution is made by dissolving 9.00 g sodium chloride (NaCI) in water and diluting it to 1000 mL. a) Calculate the sodium concentration in normal saline solution in millimolar (mM). b) Compare the concentration of sodium in human blood from problem 1 with that of normal saline solution.

Solution

Molarity = no of moles /volume in liter

No fo moles = given weight /molecular weight

1000 ml = 1 liter

Molarity = (9/58.4)/ 1

=0.1541M = 154.1 mM

no of moles = 0.1541= 154.1 millimoles

Cannot answer b due to the referred question 1 bring missing.

You just need to compare it with the molarity obtained above .Just comment if it\'s more or less concentrated
