This is a thermodynamics question I want to add an intercool
This is a thermodynamics question. I want to add an intercooler to my non-intercooled turbo diesel engine. Can someone post the equations I would need to calculate the new compressor inlet temp and outlet temperature as well as equations to solve for the other parameters or effects I could solve for assuming I have the values for mass airflow rate, mass fuel rate, ect.
Solution
Here you want to calculate inlet and outlet temperature for new compressor, So I assume that you have the Temperature for air leaving intercooler.
For instance lets assume, air leaving intercooler is tio,
You can use equation Q= mCp (tc-tio)
Q= energy transferred by intercooler
m= mass flow rate of air through intercooler
Cp= heat capacity of air
tc= temperature of air coming out from compressor
tio= outlet temperature of air in intercooler
Now similar equation can be applied to Compressor assuming T= compressor inlet temperature
Q= mCp (tc-T)
Q= energy transferred by compressor
m= mass flow rate of air through compressor
Cp= heat capacity of air
tc= temperature of air coming out from compressor
T= inlet temperature to compressor
In first equation you can find outlet temperature of compressor (tc) whereas in second equation you can find inlet temperature to compressor (T).
