The Constitution states that no State is to \"deny any individual of life, freedom, or property, without due procedure of law; nor deny to any individual inside its jurisdiction the equal protection of the laws\" (Article XIV), it doesn\'t force any positive obligations on the government to act, intervene or protect citizens \"against invasion by private actors\" . The \'due process\' condition restrains the State\'s control over the individual, yet does not force obligations on States, with regards to shielding citizens from each other.
The Supreme Court\'s position is to take after the Constitution. This has on occasion brought about impeding outcomes to people and groups.
