G great len5 for \" x Objective Knowledge Check Question 10 Calculate the energy required to heat 528.0 g of water from 27.4 to 33.7 °C. Assume the speonc heat capacity of water urder these conations is 418 1g K Round your answer to 2 signficant digts.

Solution

Ans. Amount of heat required by water during increase its temperature is given by-

q = m s dT                            - equation 1

Where,

q = heat required

m = mass of water

s1 = specific heat of water

dT = Final temperature – Initial temperature = (T2 – T1)0C

            = 33.70C – 27.40C = 6.30C = 6.3 K

Note that temperature difference in 0C units is same as in K units.

Putting the values in equation 1-

            q = 528.0 g x (4.18 J g-1 K-1) x 6.3 K

Hence, q = = 13904.352 J

Therefore, total heat released = 1.4 x 104 J (2 significant figures)
