A metal sphere of radius 8 cm is at a potential of 2000V with respect to infinity. What is the surface charge density of the metal sphere. 2.2 Times 10^-7 C/m^2 8.0 Times 10^-7 C/m^2 33.0 Times 10^-7 C/m^2 2.2 Times 10^-5 C/m^2

Solution

Here ,

radius ,r = 8 cm = 0.08 m

V = 2000 V

let the surafce charge density is sigma

as potential of the sphere is given as

V = k * 4pi * r^2 * sigma/r

2000 = 9*10^9 * 4pi * 0.08 * sigma

solving

sigma = 2.21 *10^-7 C/m^2

the surafce charge density on the sphere is 2.21 *10^-7 C/m^2
