Write the balanced equation for the reaction of aqueous PbCI

Write the balanced equation for the reaction of aqueous Pb(CIOs)h with aqueous Nal. Include phases. What mass of precipitate will form 1.50 L of highly concentrated Pb(CIOs)2 is mixed with 0.150 L of 0.200 M Nal? Assume the reaction goes to completion Number

Solution

The reaction between Lead chlorate and sodium iodide is given by

Pb(ClO3)2(aq) + 2 NaI(aq) PbI2(s) + 2 NaClO3(aq)

1 mole of Pb(ClO3)2 reacts with 2 moles of NaI. Thus, Pb(ClO3)2 is in excess, and NaI is the limiting reactant.

(0.150 L) x (0.20 mol/L NaI) x (1 mol PbI2 / 2 mol NaI) x (461 g PbI2/mol) = 6.915 g PbI2
