BSS statnds for Basic Service Set, where as ESS is Extended Service Set.

BSS consists of single central access point whereas, ESS is a multiple BSS networks connected together.

BSS connects wireless clients to wired infrastructure, and is called infrastructure mode, ESS cover a wide area and allows for roaming between accesspoints.

BSS is more secured, whereas, ESS is not as secure as BSS.
