Donut Delights Inc has determined that when x donuts are mad
Donut Delights, Inc. has determined that when x donuts are made daily, the profit P (in dollars) is given by P(x) = –0.001 x2 + 3.2x – 1250
(a) What is the company’s profit if 900 donuts are made daily?
(b) How many donuts should be made daily in order to maximize the company’s profit? Show work.
Solution
P(x) = –0.001 x2 + 3.2x – 1250
a) Profit when x= 900 donuts daily
P(900) = -0001(900)^2 +3.2*900 -1250 = $ 820
b) Quadratic function has its maxiumu at vertex:
x = -b/2a for ax^2 +bx +c
So, x= -b/2a = -(-3.2/(2*-0.001) )
= 1600 dounts daily
