Do you feel that group interaction helps the buyer too, in his decision-making
process? Elaborate.
Solution
Human beings are innately social. They need people to interact with, and make decisions. Social groups, like families, can influence the buying decisions of consumers. Family is one of the most important buying organizations in our society and, is thus, the most influential group. Family has a direct or indirect influence on the behavior and attitude of a buyer. Social class or status can also influence buying decisions. The members of a social class are one that share similar behavior, values, and interests. Group decision making is a situation faced when individuals collectively make a choice from the alternatives before them. The decision is then no longer attributable to any single individual who is a member of the group. There are both strengths and weaknesses of group decision making.
There are two big advantages to group decision making in an organizational setting, which are synergy (ability to utilize many minds to develop a multitude of ideas, leading to a high quality solution) and the sharing of information (helps the company to make an informed decision. Each member of the group usually holds specific and unique information that, when combined together, makes for an overall educated, quality decision).
One of the biggest weaknesses of group decision making is the development of groupthink. This is a process where the judgment and effectiveness of the group\'s decision making is hampered by pressures from the group.
