lx 3 ly lx 3y ly x y3y i with x notequalto 0 n y noteq
     l/x = 3 + l/y l/x = 3y + l/y x = y/3y + i with x notequalto 0 n y notequlato 0 why don\'t we write this in the most cases?

  Solution
If you check your intial equation :
l/x = 3 + i/y
as we see we have to fix a condition as x cannot be zero which would make l/x not existant
Similarly in i/y y cannot be zero which would make t/y non existant.
So, to make equation valied we have put this conditiion
