They exchanged recipes and couldn’t decide if the recipes are the same. They tried to find the conversions on Google but they had trouble. Why is it difficult to compare these recipes?
| Joan’s Recipe (English System) | Fiona’s Recipe (Metric System) |
| 1 cup butter | 120 gram butter |
| ½ cup sugar | 55 gram sugar |
| 2 ½ cups flour | 280 gram flour |
Solution
The two recipes are different.Because 1cup butter is equal to 227grams butter, 1/2 cup sugar is equal to 100grams sugar and 2 1/2 cups flour is equal to 300 to 335 grams (depends on type of flour).
This is difficult to compare these tow recipes because Joan has chosen volume of quantity and Fiona has chosen weight of quantity to prepare their recipes.
