Plants will use the glucose they produce from photosynthesis

Plants will use the glucose they produce from photosynthesis to break down the glucose into energy via cellular respiration, make starch, and make cellulose. Explain the biomolecules glucose, starch, and cellulose.

Solution

Glucose is the main readily available source of energy for a plant as it gets converted to pyruvate and then to acetyl CO-A which on complete oxidation give ATP. Also, the intermediate of Krebs cycle is raw material for amino acid synthesis. Acetyl CO-A is converted into storage fat or fat required for normal functioning of the cells.

Starch which is the polymer of gluocse is the reserve material of the plants which is utilized when the cell glucose level is low. Also, some seeds contain starch as their reserve material.

Plant has the unique feature as it has cell wall which is made up of cellulose which is again the polymer of glucose. Plant cell wall made of celluose help in maintiain the overall struture of plant cell
