If a lactose intolerant person consumes chocolate ice cream
If a lactose intolerant person consumes chocolate ice cream cake, would the activity of their parietal cells increase or decrease? If they then consumed milk, would the gastric inhibitory peptide (GIP) increase? Why or why not?
Solution
Lactose tolerance is a condition in which the body has difficulties in handling lactose resulting in diarrhea, bloating, etc. Lactose gets converted into glucose and galactose. This changes occurs when the lactose pass through the gut and gets converted into the presence of an enzyme called lactase , lactase is being made by the cells lined in the upper portion of the small intestine. If lactase is not available then the lactose can\'t get absorbed into the stomach resulting in lactose intolerance. Parietal cells use various acids to absorb lactose if a lactose intolerance person consume chocolate milk ice cream then the activity of parietal cells would increase.
