x2208 how do you solve using zero multiplication property by

x^2-20=8 how do you solve using zero multiplication property by factoring

Solution

I think you forgot the x with 8

So its

x^2 -20 = 8x

subtract 8x from both sides

x^2 -20 -8x =0

x^2 -8x -20 =0

Now we need two numbers which add to -8 and multiplied to -20

So -10 and 2

as -10+2 = -8 and -10 * 2 = -20

SO lets break the middle term

x^2 -10x +2x -20 =0

x(x-10) +2(x-10) = 0

(x-10)(x+2)=0

Now applying the Zero product rule

x- 10 = 0 or x+2 =0

solving each

x-10 = 0

add 10 to both sides

x=10

and x+2 =0

subtract 2

x=-2

So solutions are

x=10 and x=-2

And

if the problem is like

x^2 -20 =8

then we subtract 8 from both sides

we get

x^2 -28 =0

Now factoring is not possible , so I think the question is like as I did
