Describe and then compare and contrast the concepts ofelasticity vs. muscularity in the arterial system. Whatarteries need to be elastic and why? What arteries need tobe muscular and why? Name and describe the two mainphysiological reasons for vasoconstriction.

Solution

The arterial muscle are two types elastic and muscular artery. in elastic artery elastin is present in tunica media but in muscular artery smooth muscle dominates tunica media.

ELASTIC ARTERY- these are artery with large no of colagen and elastin filament. these are seen in tunica media. example- pulmonary trunk.

these artery need to be elastic because they can streach in response to each pulse. this elasticity also cause WINDKESSEL EFFECT , this effect maintains a constant pressure in the arteries.

MUSCULAR ARTERY- it draws blood from elastic artery and branches in small arteries and arterioles.the fuction of muscular artery is todeliver blood to specific body organ.

example-radial and splenic artery.

VASOCONSTRICTION- it is the constraction of vessel\'s mascular wall. the 2 physiological conditions causing vasoconstriction are-

A. epinephrine hormone,

B. activation of sympathetic nervous system.
