1. We are given that f[1,2] = 8%=.08

and for the first year we have

943.4(1+S1)=1000

or (1+s1) = 1000/943.4 , ------->(1)

and for the second year we have

X(1+S2)^2 = 1000

X(1+S1)(1+f[1,2]) = 1000 , ------>(2)

From (1) and (2)

X(1000/943.4)*(1+.08)=1000

=> X = 943.4/1.08 = 873.52
