The chapter mentioned reconnaissance attacks. Do some research to learn more about the tools that attackers use when on a reconnaissance mission. In your own words, describe two tools that you researched.
subject name Network design and implementation
Solution
Reconnaissance attacks happen essentially incase of the LAN\'s which enable transfering of data incase of proximity or it can be explained as anyone nearby with the proper tools is able to access the LANs to send whatever data they require, in many cases access important information. The mechanisim involves the attacker to discover and analyse targets to create vulnerablities in their system. There are several Tools used for these activities ,some of them are:
1.Sniffing Tools: As the name suggests Sniffing is in general obeservation or eavesdropping to find out a network to drop packets onto it.In case of sniffing it is important for both attackers as well as defenders it involves two stages packet analysis and display.
Packet analysis allows the attacker to understand the network and decide the strength as well as information of the network sometines even to the length of the usernames and passwords which gives them the insight onto a network. Also the attacker can target the traffic and later run analysis of the data being transferred.
There are many commercial as well as open-source softwares available for this. For a network administrator it is helpful to analyze the netwrok configuration as well as to correctly determine where the attacks are happening.
Example:Prismdump
2.The second most common practice is WarChalking in which the attacker basically marks the open ended access points in the network with a paint or chalk, this happens because the owners are ignorant of there existance. There are many outlooks to such a technique like warstrolling i.e., walking around with a wireless looking for networks or attaching antennas on planes and flying it over some area.
Example : Wellenreiter which uses GPS and hence is related to the term wardriving.
