Solution
Point of care documentation is one of the innovative ways to improve the quality and efficiency of the documentation process where healthcare professionals interact with the patients and while doing so, they collect the information and document it using suitable device. It experienced it when I saw and experienced it when being applied to my one relative being admitted to the hospital and nurses, physiotherapist and nutritionist came to interact with the patient.
It has three positive qualities and experiences:
1. It effectively and efficiently record the information
2. Scope of error is reduced
3. Professionals understand the issues faced by the patients and can recommend the remedial action.
Though, I faced negative experiences also that are as follows:
1. Cultural diversity and differences can inhibit the effective communication
2. Relatively unstructured interaction
3. Costs of the visits of these people are very high and directly transferred to the patients
Above negative experiences can be transformed into the positive experience by taking the following initiatives:
1. Providing cultural and human factor training to the health care people so that effective communication is made and more information is recorded by the clinicians. It will further raise the quality of the P-O-C documentation.
2. Cost of P-O-C documentation should be minimal so that patients already burdened by the high cost of health care get some relief.
Above initiatives will help to get a higher level of positive experience.
