“The world is characterized by scarcity and competition for limited resources. Further growth of either human populations or standard of living will be disastrous.”

Think about this statement and decide if you agree or disagree with it and why.

Note the either clause in the statement. What would be worse population growth or increases in the average standard of living?

Solution

The statement has to parts: 1. The world is charcterized by scarcity and competition for limited sources; 2. Further growth of either human populations or standard of living will be disastrous.

I agree with the latter statement but not with the former statement.

Reason:

Nature has systematically organized every aspect of the universe ranging from nano level to macro level. And it has provided all the possible basic resources (renewable) which all the creatures are in need. But it is the human being who has distrupted the nature cycle to the extent possible for his own benefit. This has led extinction of many creatures in nature. The dilution in natural cycling created by humans is reached to the state where no further dilution is possible. Hence he has to compromise with the population growth or standard of living.

“The world is characterized by scarcity and competition for limited resources. Further growth of either human populations or standard of living will be disastro
