How does the orientation dot help to mount films in their correct anatomic position?

Solution

The orientation dot may be a raised bump or a depressed bump that helps to determine the orientation of the dental film that is mounted. The film is placed in the mouth in such as manner that the dot side of the film packet is facing the tube head while the x-ray is exposed. After processing of the films, the film is placed on a film mount such that all the moulded dots face the same direction.By this way a dental radiographer can find out and distinguish which is the right and which is the left side of the patient.
