Write the following complex numbers in the polar form 1 I s

Write the following complex numbers in the polar form: -1 + I squareroot 3 -12i

Solution

a) In polar form ?

The magnitude is sqrt( 1+3) = 2

Angle is tan-1(sqrt(3)) = 60

So, in polar form it is 2*<60

b)-12i = 0-12i

The magnitude is 12

The anlge is Tan-1(-12/0) = 90

So, in polar form it is 12*<90
