Genetics Question- Just want to make sure my thinking is along the right path. Thank you!

You should recall from your studies on DNA replication that DNA polymerase requires a number of accessory factors to successfully copy a DNA molecule. Name at least 6 of these proteins and in one sentence write out what they do in the cell. Besides proteins, are there any other, molecules needed for DNA replication. Name 2?

Solution

Yes you are going right.

Now let me describe each one of them in short for you.

1. Helicase : DNA helicase is the enzyme that unwinds the DNA double strand by breaking hydrogen bonds in between them

2. Single stranded binding proteins : these proteins SSB prevent the single strands of DNA to come back together and form a double stranded DNA molecule during replication.

3. Primase : it catalyses the formation of a RNA primer for DNA replication.

4. Ligase : it joins okazaki fragments of the lagging strand of DNA during replication.

5. Telomerase : they aid in replication of telomeres of chromosome. They prevent chromosome degradation and shortening

6. Topoisomerase : they act on topology of DNA and cause unwind the overwinded regions of DNA durib replication.

Part c is correct as well
