A) A pressure cooker can be used to cook foods quickly under high pressure. The temperature inside a pressure cooker is 116 degrees celsius. Calculate the vapor pressure of water inside the pressure cooker.

B) What would the temperature inside the pressure cooker be if the vapor pressure of water inside the cooker was 3.44 atm?

Solution

a) at 116 c, from steam table saturation pressure = Psat = 174.65 KPa = 174.65/101.325 = 1.723 atm

b) at 3.44 atm saturation temperature from steam table = T = 137.56 C
